Novel Summary
In a frozen corner of the Northern Territory, 1885, seven strangers are lured to a derelict stagecoach station by a cryptic promise of clemency for their darkest secrets. As a lethal blizzard seals them inside, the enigmatic host, a quiet toy-maker named Silas, unveils a grotesque puppet show reenacting the death of an unarmed boy shot by a county deputy. One by one, the guests—the deputy, the county commissioner, the witness who lied, the journalist who smeared the victim, the mortician who falsified the autopsy, and the judge who dismissed the case—are found murdered in macabre tableaus that mirror their sins. But as the numbers dwindle, Silas realizes his vengeance has not exhumed justice, only planted fresh seeds of retribution in the hearts of the survivors, and the only way to break the chain is to let the final secret consume him as well.
