In the decaying grandeur of Veridia, a fictional Southern coastal city, a desperate man's fight against a Kafkaesque bureaucracy collides with a literary serial killer. When failed writer Elias Crane is denied disability benefits, he tumbles into a moral abyss where survival trumps all ethics. As the city becomes a stage for murders lifted from classic novels, Crane discovers that in the chasm between the desperate and the damned, moral superiority is the ultimate luxury he cannot afford.
