Novel Summary
In the decaying industrial town of Riversend, Veridia, steel magnate Lucas Kaine is convicted of poisoning the Greywater River, causing ecological collapse and the death of activist Ella Flynn’s grandfather. To escape his past, Lucas enters a clandestine memory-erasure experiment known as Project Nepenthe. Reborn as Samuel Black, a humble river-restoration volunteer with no recollection of his crimes, he unwittingly falls in love with Ella, the very woman whose life he shattered. As fragmented memories resurface like toxic sludge, their forbidden bond forces both to confront the unhealed wounds of ambition, loss, and whether a man can ever truly be separated from his sins. Inspired by Brian Masters’ psychological depth, this is a story of guilt, redemption, and the fragile line between hero and monster.
