Case Summary
Tahir Hussain, a former Aam Aadmi Party municipal councillor, was accused of orchestrating deadly violence during the February 2020 North-East Delhi riots. He allegedly turned his Chand Bagh building into a rooftop arsenal, stockpiling petrol bombs, acid bottles, and stones, and led mobs targeting Hindus. On 26 February, Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma was dragged, beaten to death, and his body dumped in a drain near Hussain's property. Hussain was arrested in March 2020 and charged with murder, rioting, and criminal conspiracy. The case became a central part of investigations into a purported larger conspiracy behind the sectarian clashes that killed 53 people.

Status or Result
On 7 March 2023, Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Yadav of Karkardooma Court convicted Tahir Hussain and three co-accused for the murder of Ankit Sharma. On 10 March 2023, Hussain was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Key Disputes
The key dispute centered on whether witness testimonies and forensic evidence proved Hussain's direct participation and conspiracy, or whether he was falsely implicated due to political bias. The defense challenged the credibility of witnesses and alleged the investigation was premeditated to frame Hussain and link AAP to the riots.

Social Impact
The conviction intensified communal polarization and reignited debates on political responsibility for the Delhi riots. It triggered demands for a comprehensive judicial inquiry and heightened scrutiny of politicians accused of inciting hate violence, reinforcing the demand for accountability in cases of communal bloodshed.
