In January 2025, an 18-year-old girl in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala, revealed that she had been sexually abused by numerous men since the age of 13. The abuse started with a sports coach, Anoop, who exploited her trust and later forced her into sexual acts with dozens of his acquaintances over a period of years. The survivor disclosed her ordeal to the Child Welfare Committee, triggering the registration of multiple cases under the POCSO Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. A Special Investigation Team was formed, and by February 2025, over 40 accused had been arrested, including a youth Congress leader. The case uncovered a vast network of exploitation and sparked national outrage.
